Datnioides Polota a.k.a. Datnioides Quadrifasciatus a.k.a. Silver Dat a.k.a. American Tiger (AT for short), perhaps my favourite dat.

But why is it American?

Well, just a wild guess but the AT seems to be the least desirable dat species to collectors in Asia and perhaps there was a time when it was the preferred species to supply the American market with, the name does go back several decades.

Yes, that is true. The common name here (as translated) is striped perch. It is not considered a tiger. It has never been considered an unusual fish, and at markets in the west and central regions was often seen for sale as food.
