Hello arapaimag,

Hope you are well.

How often does someone go inside the tank to scrub down the inside part of the viewing glass?

Thanks.

Actually I have not needed it cleaned by anyone inside the big tank. I have a very powerful magnetic cleaner made for 1" glass. When the panels do need it we just use the cleaner. My friend Jeff Mountjoy has cleaned the 15,000 glass panels from the inside (Once three years ago). The plecos do a fair good job in both tanks.

I hope you where OK when Irene hit your area.

Ive often wondered how do u heat the water to match the tank temperature [especially in the icy winters of canada] when doing waterchanges ?

and how do dechorinate the water, if u are using tap water ??

and also what is the ph like, and do you try to buffer it ? Since there is alot of different species living alongside each other eg. south american and cichlid

sorry for the 20Q, just real curios. Thanks

Hello to sunny South Africa.

I use well water. I am lucky the tank is big enough that I can actually add a few thousand gallons of 53 degree well water without any worries. The tank will warm the water coming in at reduced tap water pressure speed all the time (I am using at present a sort of a fast drip system at about 2,000 gallons per 24 hours). I use a tankless gas fired Rinnai water heater to heat the tank by way of the 300 foot Pex heating coil acting as a heat exchanger.

The Ph is around 7.4 and all my fish have no problems with that.

Even my discus and angelfish in my smaller tanks handle that Ph and even breed in it.

Thanks for the reply :)

Very interesting. I always thought the pH wold be very important [especially for those 2 arapaimas] but i guess as long as its stable and not too extreme everybody's happy.

By the way speaking of arpaima, how large are yours [an estimate] ? , and is it true that A.arapima are smaller than A.gigas ?

I know you dont like to discuss the money of this project, but its a considerable factor to all us hopefulls. What would you estimate is the operational costs of all your tanks?
