The title says it all. Rate this group of fish from highest level of aggression to least:

Dovii, Trimac, Flowerhorn, Midas, Festae, Umbie, Managuense, Green Texas, Green Terror.

Heres my rating:

1) Flowerhorn
2) Dovii
3) Midas
4) Festae
5) Managuense
6) Trimac
7) Umbie
8) Green Texas
9) Green Terror

Is that somewhat accurate?

Can any of these fish be kept together or in a pair to some extent in a 180 gallon tank?

Wonder how many people who end up posting on this thread have kept multiple individuals of every different species they are "rating" or are just going on what they see online? Not calling anyone out, just saying...

Every fish is an individual, some are exceptionally aggressive or mellow for their species. It all just depends so much. I think you have a general idea of what tends to be more aggressive (dovii, FH, Midas, etc) but ALL of these fish can be real killers or puppy dogs, depending on the individual (although I've never seen a mellow male dovii, exception to the rule? ;)).

Agreed, & you caught me lol...I haven't owned any of those except the green texas and green terror BUT I am mainly going off what I've heard on here plus from seeing vids on youtube. I know, that isn't very accurate...lol. In all honesty though, they are all pretty darn aggressive and it is hard to rate all these and put them into an order of most aggressive to least because it kinda varies from fish to fish...for instance, someone can own a dovii that will kill any other tankmate its size or smaller and then you can have someone that owns a dovii and it is fine with most other tankmates. So, unless like you said, people have owned multiple individuals of all these species, can they more accurately order these species.

I think very few fishkeepers have kept multiple individuals of all those species long term.

Funny enough, the most aggressive fish I've owned pound for pound were my Cryptoheros cutteri "Rio Mongo" pair. Neets also have a vicious reputation.

I've kept all other than the hybrid. Depends on the fish and the environment you put it in.

Flowerhorn is the most agressive i have ever kept, my Red Devil was a wuss and lived to adulthood in a 75g with tanks mates no problems.

im going by what i have owned or what ive witnessed un regards to aggression.

1. dovii (currently own a pair and they are extremely aggressive to anything, humans and cichlids)
2. umbee (currently growing a potential pairand let me tell you he is a sob)
3. beani ( tried numerous times to raise them before bloat killed them but i had a male reach about 5 inches and he was kept in a 150 alone because he killed all other fish in there with him)
4. midas/red devil/flowerhorn (at put these guys at the same spot because i have raised them together and let me tell i have seen some battles but was successful in raising tbem together for a while, i even got a male flowerhorn and female midas paired up, they are very mean species.
5. trimac (had a buddy with a huge male that was insane)
6. festae (raising 4 of then at the moment and they are very territorial and get in there aggressive moods often)
7. cuban (my male will put up a fight with anyone until he dies, ive pulled him out of tanks many times to heal up and he still survives the fight)
8. green texas (get very peeved very quickly)

I have a male Managuense and used to keep a Green Terror, The Managuese has to be kept alone, he will terrorize any other cichlid including a mating pair of Oscars with eggs to protect and straight up attack any dithers I try, he was slamming my Silver dollars against the glass last time I tried.

The Green Terror was only a juvie, a few inches and he kept my Oscars who were easily 4 x his mass kept pinned in the corner of the tank, if they dared move he was all over them so I sold him on. Shame I didn't have the tank space to keep him.

Any ratings I have given are fish I have seen in person. I made an inference from behavior I have witnessed. In no way am I saying this is a scientific certainty. And I only have owned little more than half of these species. I was trying to get an idea of what others have experienced as well. I guess someone always has to play the forum cop.

However, from what I have seen flowerhorn and dovii are usually the two most aggressive. Where do managuense stand on this scale? (in general, I know fish are individuals) Those are three of the cichlids named I have not owned. Are jags really that aggressive in comparison to these other fish?
