Step Up To The Big League

I know I want to keep rays. I think they are some of the most interesting species out there.I have a large aquarium(220). I have the skill as a responsible and experienced aquarist. I even have a t-shirt!
I just cant afford the price tag!! How do you step up to the majors? Even with regular fish, the transition from common to uncommon can be very expensive!
How do I do it? Where do I go for the "starter" ray? Anyone have constructive advice?

In general it really isn't that expensive you have a tank big enough for any smaller species of rays, what's your filtration? And what's your current stock

Forgot to ask what your dimensions were also if you want a ray start getting information from the stickies and Google. I can recommend either a potamotrygon reticula or hystrix for the size of your tank unless your upgrading within the next 2 years.

My filtration is a 40g sump with 5g bioballs, 36L of Eheim Pro. Also, There is an Eheim 2250 with 12L Eheim Pro discharging through a Laguna UV sterilizer. My return rate is 1500gph INTO the tank. I currently have sand(#12 silver river), very few decorations. One 15" Oscar/wuss, One 15" Sailfin Pleco, a 8" Royal Pleco( L190) five juvinile Geophagus Tapajos, 7" blue botia loach, one baby Koi and one greenbay snook. But I would move them all out for a ray.

Rays are quite inexpensive compared to how much they eat. A 220 is a big tank but still small for rays.

So its official, I cant keep rays in Cali, unless they are saltwater. Thanks to those that responded.
That sucks.
