i dont think vegitables do good in conditions like these. i could be wrong but i've been researching aquaponics and the main problem is the plants need potassium to flower or something like that wich is bad for the fish and fish waste doesnt carry. im planning on doing a 220g with a 55g refugium heavily planted next year. ill have 2 festae in there so not heavily stocked but ill give an update on results on breeding and water quality

ive seen some greenhouse setups using a rabbit or chicken coop over the tank or pond holding the fish to provide the extra neutrients these plants need. now not something someone would want to do in their house, it is an intresting concept. One thing ive always wondered is if the ferts the planted tank people use, if those would provide the missing elements.

The reason is more people look to advertising then science and facts when they set up their filtration. Truth is according to science that the Fluval FX5 is the worst type of filtration you can have. But due to advertising it is the "king". I laugh when i see people stack 2 or 3 of them as in actuallity it does very little to improve their filtration. Its like those "polishing pads" they sell for canisters, a complete rip off and scam.

if monsterfishkeepers and backyardaquaponics got together, It would become the best freshwater board ever. We could help each other greatly. A lot of those guys know very little about fish, and a lot of us know know very little about plants.
