What kind of lizards or reptiles that could live in an "aquarium" type set up? Something that goes on land and water, but uses frequently and actually "swims". I would love any suggestions, and if its a predator thats a plus!

you'd be better off with newts or salamanders, few lizards actually swim often... caiman lizards do but they will need a very large elaborate setup and specialized diet.

As far as lizards go, basilisks and sailfin dragons are good options although the sailfin dragons are better for more experienced keepers; both types of lizards require fairly large enclosures as well. I believe that crocodile skinks swim as well although few people give them deep enough water for swimming. Crocodilians are another possibility although anything beyond a dwarf caiman will prove next to impossible for the typical keeper to house as an adult.

As Sylvias said, newts or salamanders are really your best bet; there are plenty of ones that swim frequently.

Lol too big, I would get a caiman though if I could find one.
That's what the Internet is for! Try Kingsnake.com and FaunaClassifieds; there are usually a few dwarf caimans for sale on there. Remember, you want a dwarf caiman if an alligator is too big for you. Read this guide if you really want to get into crocodilians; there's some great information in there (housing, feeding, sexing, etc.).

Yes as said before some newts or salamander would be fine.I have a friend that has a 75g half land & half water .With three salamander in there & they love it !! I myself am converting a ackie monitor enclosure to a caiman lizard enclosure! Not caiman alligator, caiman lizard.Found in South America ,Peru, etc. They get about 4 feet & are great looking.Expensive to feed, requires large enclosures semi aquatical. good luck with your choices & keep us updated please!!
