How do you guys prepare your frozen tilapia to feed to your fish? I decided to try feeding frozen tilapia to my fish and bought frozen tilapia fillets and cut them up into little pieces, but after cutting them into pieces I tried feeding it to my fish and they ate some and spit out others. Is there something I could add to the little frozen pieces of tilapia so they will eat every piece and not eat some and spit out others?

After I cut the frozen tilapia into little pieces, it had thawed if that makes any difference. I don't know whether its better to do that or to refreeze after cutting them into little pieces

Oh and my fish are small to medium sized africans and ca/sa

Any help is appreciated!

have you had them feeding on the same thing for a while? mine will eat anything i put in the tank, blood worms, earth worms, pellets, talapia, other cichlids lol....it make take them alittle to get used to it.

Well, my livingstonii is much bigger than yours and I read somewhere they only get pickier the bigger they get. I haven't tried worms yet...may have to try that

I also heard they like prawns and lancefish...can you get these at your LFS/LPS?

Maybe your right though and they just need to get use to it. I'll try feeding them tilapia again tonight. Thanks

my LFS doesnt carry prawns or lancefish, they just have the basics like krill, BW, brine shrimp..and stuff like that...maybe try some live ghost shrimp...mine love it when i dump about 100 in the tank with them, they go crazy..lol

I've wondered how others do it as well. I buy mine already filleted, not frozen but was on ice. I cut them up into smaller pieces and freeze. I thaw whatever portions I need to feed that day in a couple drops of garlic xtreme by Kent (I'm trying to get my payara to eat fillets- so far only krill)

it sounds like your fish are getting used to eating tilipia. hence eating some and spitting out others. over time they will probably get accustomed to the taste and realize they better eat.. or starve lol if it continues to be a problem, try the garlic. It'll help the thawing process & stir up a better appetite

I feed a ton of things and always have to my fishies. I soak new foods in either shrimp water or bloodworm water. My fish go nuts for both foods. Then I feed a few pieces a day and one fish will always figure it out. Seems like once one does the rest follow. For me my lil 3-4" psittacus and oscar are the ones that eat anything first. Natural instinct kicks in and then all of the sudden everybody wants it!
