Lets see what's in your stand! mechanical photo's

I only mentioned these filter bags because someone mentioned that 7" was the largest size.

I only have two fish. But I will be using a large holding sump. It would be silly to use small filter socks with this sump tank.

With the large grids on my external overflow boxes, any uneaten food will go straight into the sump.

I'm aware of that. Am considering doubling up on them. Want to make my own bags, but haven't found the appropriate material. Plan on using four or five in my sump. The main purpose will be to catch any debris passing through the overflow boxes. My main mechanical filtration will be from six Pentair Rainbow RTL-100s. There will be seven 1 1/2" uptakes in the tank which will hopefully, pick up the majority of the debris.

I was planning on using the sump as strictly a holding tank until I saw these large filter bags. In addition to using these 5 gallon filter bags, I'm now going to throw in 20 L of Pond Matrix for some redundant biological filtration. After thought filtration :)

Your going to use 6 of these filters? At 180+ a pop is crazy. filter replacement has to be around 70 per filter yes they can be cleaned but still seems a bit redundant and overkill for filtration? Don't get me wrong its your tank, but do you need that many?

How do those Pentair filters work? Water gets forced in and forced out the other side through a filter or something?

Apparently you've never heard of Tim "The Toolman" Taylor.

They are similar to Ocean Clear or Nu-Clear filters in that they utilize a filter cartridge insert. The beauty of the Pentair RTL-100 is that it uses a 100 sq ft 100 micron filter cartridge as opposed to the 25 - 30 sq ft 25 micron or 100 micron cartridges of the other brand. Actually other fishkeepers are seeing the light--there is actually one marine/freshwater vendor who is selling RTLs. It still was cheaper to buy mine from a pool/spa vendor.

Between the tank and the sump we will have over 2,000 gallons of water. I don't think it's overkill. We are running two RTL-25s on our 300 gallon tank and more would have been nice (less frequent cleaning/change out of the cartridges).

I would use 7x32 polypropylene socks - they have close to if not the same surface area as the 5G paint strainer bags but are made of a much better material.

I agree with this. It should be easier to support these compared to a 5 gallon bucket sized one. Plus the better quality materials last longer. There probably are some people that just throw stuff away when it gets dirty and waste money. I'm not one of them though. I run the fine filter pads for my canisters through the washer as well as filter socks.

I actually thought about using an rtl-25 on a 75 gallon along with a sump I'm setting up. I haven't really decided exactly how I want to do it.

:lipsseale Never mind and carry on!! I had no idea you tank was not really a tank. But a tank on steroids!! Nice job.

As far as installation though, do they just go inline of the pump and hardplumbed in?
