I think he's looking for personal experience. Google will bring up tons of results, not all of which are accurate or first-hand. That's why a lot of people choose to ask questions on forums rather than go to Google. A good example is the Google Images search -- type any cichlid name and I bet you get fish that are not the species you typed in. :D

By "blue eyed cichlid," are we talking about Archocentrus spilurum?

Are these the cichlids you are talking about?
These where my pair of Blue Eyed Cichlids that I had about a year ago. Great fish with great personality. Very aggressive during breeding. My male was probably 7 inches when I got rid of him and my female was around 4 or 5. great colors as well. my fish liked dried plankton, pellets, and i fed them shrimp for a treat.

Those definately aren't blue eye cichlids. the top fish is a synspilum, and the bottom fish looks like some weird Bloodparrot/pearsi frankenfish. maybe its just the picture.

Arcocentrus Spilurus is the Jade eyed cichlid (or Blue eyed cichlid)
I have kept and bred them before they are a peaceful fish that can be kept in communities aswell as with other less aggressive cichlid species. They have bright blue eyes but when they enter spawning mode their eyes will turn to gold/yellow and they will wash out to a pale whitish colour with black strong bars. they are a great fish to fill out your stocking and they rarely bother tankmates. although I warn you they can interbreed with not only other similar fish, like Sajica and Cutteri but also with convicts and other american cichlids.

here is a picture of an adult male

Yup sorry I should have said, personel experiences would be muchly appreciated, they are Archocentrus spilurum what I saw although the shop just labelled them as Blue Eyed Cichlids. And can anyone tell me the size they grow- I have read they reach 7inch max?

I read only 4.5" and my LFS said 6" so honestly, they don't get very big which is a plus for cichlids.
