Piranha vs large Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There is some show on animal planet where they take completely different types of animals for example a cougar and a python which wouldn't encounter eachother in the wild commonly but when they do these are the results. I was watching this show and thought of what about large aggressive fish! So that is how I came to this conclusion of wondering and I asked fellow MFKers to see what they thought of this fight
Sorry forgot to put the quote

I love that show!

If a jag lip locked with a RBP, the jag would be missing part of either it's upper or lower jaw :duh: Doubt it would ever take place though.
I think that the jag would use a different stragady of fighting once it was bitten(If it is bitten because single RBs are really mellow). But a lot of it really depends on the individual fish.

Yep if a jag lip locked with a piranha those teeth would clearly slice right through the Jags lips. Good luck though not sure piranha lip lock I had three P's never seen it happen had them for years

Stop flaming the OP because he is not harming fish. I bet almost everyone on the fourm asked simaler questions at some point. I used to ask the same type of questions. :chillpill:

I never said anywhere that it was entertaining to me to see fish be hurt or threatened. I appreciate fish very much. The only thing I said was I would like to see this such as in a wild encounter possibly or other occurances. But reread as no where in the paragraph did I state that this is "entertaining" I love fish and I love all kinds of fish. I would never purposely harm a fish as I am very fond of all fish! Read carefully before assuming.

I was also curious a I might be changing some stock and was maybe gonna try this as well but wanted to see what might happen

So either your common sense is extremely lacking, or you are just a sadistic person who wants to see fish kill eachother...

Does not matter who is more aggressive. If any cichlid tries to lock jaw with a piranha, said fish will be missing it's lips and probably a good part of its face. It's like locking a jaw with a set of razorblades...

In the wild, cichlids defend themselves against Ps by putting their back tail into the ground with their heads up, to avoid getting their fins being bitten off... Once their fins are gone, the fish would be rendered helpless and then would be a snack for the piranha. The cichlid won't try to lock jaws with the piranha, but instead try to protect itself from getting bit. Maybe throw some body bites to chase the piranha away...

Imagine seriously locking jaws with this:

A cichlid could go at it all day chasing around a piranha, and it will only take a single bite from the piranha to seriously injure and likely kill the cichlid.

They are completely different types of fish and therefore have different thought processes, and character. Theoretically IF they locked, the P would tear the Jags jaw off. But Ps don't really have that mentality from my knowledge. It's the Jag, being big cichlids that have that "I'm gonna kick your *** cuz I can" mentality. So I would think the jag would definitely be the victor...unless the P was REALLY hungry.

I bet if you search through our threads you will find that you are on the losing end of that bet by a vast majority.
