Piranha vs large Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Does not matter who is more aggressive. If any cichlid tries to lock jaw with a piranha, said fish will be missing it's lips and probably a good part of its face. It's like locking a jaw with a set of razorblades...

In the wild, cichlids defend themselves against Ps by putting their back tail into the ground with their heads up, to avoid getting their fins being bitten off... Once their fins are gone, the fish would be rendered helpless and then would be a snack for the piranha. The cichlid won't try to lock jaws with the piranha, but instead try to protect itself from getting bit. Maybe throw some body bites to chase the piranha away...

Imagine seriously locking jaws with this:

A cichlid could go at it all day chasing around a piranha, and it will only take a single bite from the piranha to seriously injure and likely kill the cichlid.
That is with large schools or piranhas. a single piranha would be less aggressive. but no one is really right beacause it depends on the indevidiel fish.

I said nothing about large schools. I said nothing about who is more aggressive. It does not matter. Piranha has razor blade teeth, any cichlid will not stand a chance if it locked jaws, even with a juvenile single piranha.

If you don't believe me, try it yourself. I don't care who is more aggressive, if you try to bite a razor sharp blade, you will get cut. No matter who you are. Bottom line.

It's just common sense. But that doesn't seem too common these days.

Hay I did nothing. I had no intention to get in a fight.

No one is fighting; I was just pointing out that your statement was not true, because after almost 3 years of daily activity on this forum, I could probably count the number of "fish vs. fish" threads I've come across on a single hand. That is a far cry from "almost everyone" posting these pointless threads.

I think that the jag would use a different stragady of fighting once it was bitten(If it is bitten because single RBs are really mellow). But a lot of it really depends on the individual fish.

Probably so, BUT DID YOU READ THE ORIGINAL POST?

So if say a large male aggressive JAG were to lip lock or jaw lock a Piranha what would happen? I know that Piranha have teeth like right there in their mouths so what would turn out? Would it just be the p tearing right throught the JAG or maybe not? Just wondering as I've never seen anything about any cichlids jaw locking and p's. Btw the p would be a large red belly. So what would turn out? A bloody jag or a messed up p? If anyone has any pics of any p's jaw locking cichlids please post I wanna see this. Also wondering how a jaw lock would work as the Piranha has a basically straight head while most cichlids have a curved like body

I am just wondering! Holy crap you guys automatocally asume that I am either a fish abuser or I am "entertained" by seeing a fish being threatened. But this is not the case at all as like previously stated I am just curious what would happen as I was curious because I have a jack dempsey and he will lip lock anything! So I was wondering if I were to get a Jag as they are known to lip lock a lot of other fish (in my experience on the internet) and I was wondering if the Jag and p were to lip lock what would happen. So I am not a fish abuser or any type of person who is "entertained" by threatened fish. I also just saw on animal planet a show where animals that are completely different and not located anywhere nearby fight! It's a cgi show though so its not abuse. I was just curious calm down and do what you came here for. Please just answer the question. But it was already answered so no further responses are needed I already know what will happen from people who ACTUALLY ANSWER QUESTIONS rather than assuming false information about me.

Piranhas are used to being bitten and fighting in the wild even w/ their own kind!! Rbp are the toughest fw fish imo and their teeth are absolutly RAZOR sharp!

A rbp would chomp right threw its lips/mouth and after that by nature the piranha will eat a weak fish! Its their survival mechinism.

There isnt a contest, thats like saying a knife would win in a gunfight!

Cichlids can be very aggresive but their not natural born killers and they surely dont have it bad compaired to the amazon and the wet/dry months. I absolutly LOVE my shoal of rbp! Wouldnt get rid of them for the entire world!

Watch this video, looks to me that a single RBP would have no problem handling a large cichlids of equal size. The largest RBP starts getting fed up around the 1:50 mark.

eh, i don't have anything to offer except to reconfirm what's already been said, in that scenario the jag would be missing part of it's face. anything else that's being brought up simply doesn't matter because that's not what the original poster asked about
