Depends on the size of the aquarium. If you have like a super massive (just for conversation) 50,000 gallon or more, then they'll get bigger than in the wild. But on average I don't think they do. I have seen a couple 4 footers but I mostly see 30-40 inches. I'm no fish keeping expert but IMO one (provided an incredible filter) rtc will do fine in a 8' x 4' x 2.5' pond because they usually don't reach their full potential unless there given extreme tanks. My LFS kept one in a 480 for 13-14 years and it only got 3.5 feet long. Sorry I'm not sure what the metric conversions for these are.

In my opinion this is the minimum and you can only keep it alone because it will eat every other fish..

is your pond heated? rtc can't live in cold water. and it seems sorta dumb to me cuz u'd rarely see it. unless you plan putting in a bunch and fishing for them lol. given a proper diet i believe it would get extremely large.
I have a new quest! I will make an extremely large red tail catfish! If I put like 6 in my pond I will try and get some huge a** red tails! I bet I could get some like 6 feet maybe lol as it has fish, turtles, and amphibeans to feed on along with feedings by me. So one day I will get a rtc grow him large in my tank (12") then ill drop him or them in my pond. I might even just grow them to like 2 feet in my 3600 gallon pond I'm building. So I will grow him or them large in either a tank or my smaller 3600 gallon pond. I am going to look around for some of these really cheap or free rtc near me. I've seen like 3 that are free and I've seen some for like $5 ill see what I can collect nearby. And ill drop in like 20 in my really large pond and try to make a huge school lol

Sounds cool and I'll be following you of you do it. However your pond looks like its very cold based on the pics. They need around tropical climates year round (75-85 degrees)

Ya I went kayaking on it today and the water is currently around 72 degrees and I have no idea how lol the weather isn't steady right now in ny! But ill take the rtc in during winter and put them in my heated stock pond or my pool lol I got a pool and we didn't go swimming yet so its just sitting tap water that's being filtered so I might wanna put them in there lol they would be so cool to swim with! Omg I'm telling my dad about this tommorow and I will force him to say yes! I wanna go swimming with some huge a** catfish lol

they couldnt live in a wild unheated, unstable pond and then you expect them to just show up in a pond that big and that murky. its not like they'll swim into your net. you'd have to catch them hook and line. also you would need to stabilize our tap water in your pool. you can't just put i fish in a pool. there is so much other stuff that needs to take place first.

I wish you the best of luck with this, but at the same time i think you need to also plan how you will move a couple of potentially 4'-5' long fish from your pond to the pool?

Lol the pool is like 1000 feet away from the pond across one of the fields to the pond behind my house and I can just throw the catfish on one of my quad trailers in a large container and drive to the pool quick! Doubt ill do this now as I'm broke lol
