My list.
1.) Parachromis Dovii. The infamous Wolf cichlid or Dovii cichlid. These species of cichlids are usually very peaceful when they are juveniles. They get extremely aggressive and territorial once they reach 6-8 inches. Dovii's have enormous mouths and a full set of fangs.
Dovii cichlids can reach 25+inches in length, easily one of the largest Central American Cichlids around.
Back in 2003 I had a dovii that I raised since it was an inch long. That dovii was a total wussy when he was young. After a year I moved the dovii to my 600 gallon tank, there were other big cichlids in the 600 gallon tank with him. The first day of the dovii being in the 600 gallon tank he brutally murdered all 15 of the other cichlids. All of the other cichlids had missing eyes, throats, and stomachs! At the end, I had a fat bellied dovii by himself in a huge tank. Do not make my mistake, dovii cichlids seriously have psychotic problems.
2.) Caquataia Umbrifera. The Umbee cichlid. This species of cichlid are pure muscle, the strength of a two foot long specimen is unbelievable. Umbee cichlids are pretty similar to dovii cichlids in size and aggression.
Umbee cichlids look fairly cute when they are juveniles, but they change fast. They change into blood thirsty killing machines. Umbee's are one of the largest cichlids around. I heard some fish owners say they can reach 30+inches.
I owned an umbee in 2006, had the bastard for 4 months. This umbee would fight every day with the other cichlids, eventually the other cichlids died. I remember seeing the umbee rip a midas cichlids lips right off of its face. The umbee also broke my old jaguar cichlids spine, the jaguar was badly crooked.
3.) Nandopsis Haitiensis. The black nasty cichlid. This species have anger problems. They are capable of beating dovii's and umbee's. They can get 16+inches long.
I call these guys black hell because I owned one a couple months ago that would attack me through the glass every second of his life.
Sadly that black nasty cichlid died, he once attacked the glass so hard he broke his mouth(snout). These species are very prone to bloat, only experienced fish owners should own these guys.
4.) Amphilophus Labiatus. The Red Devil Cichlid. This species are 'known' to kill even the most aggressive cichlids. They are named red devil for a reason, they kill for fun. Seriously, only getting about a foot long red devil can take down and kill cichlids much larger then themselves.
Red devil cichlids have great personalities though, they are definitely a wet pet.
I had a red devil a few years ago, this little guy was a killer even at 3 inches. He would act very peaceful in front of me, then in the morning when I was gone all the other fish were dead with their mouths wide opened. It was sick.
5.) Tilapia Buttikoferi. Hornet Tilapia. These evil cichlids are from Africa but they act exactly like a Central/South American cichlid. They can reach 18+inches. They are very entertaining fish, following you where ever you go. I've owned quite a few buttikoferi cichlids. They love to fight, they will smash other cichlids into things and rip all their scales off. Not the most aggressive but is definitely a beast.
6.) Parachromis Motaguense. Can reach a foot long, very hyper aggressive cichlid. Cousin to the dovii. They also have very sharp fangs, ripped my hand open once. I have seen a handful of these guys kill dovii's.
7.) Nandopsis Grammodes. The Mini dovii cichlid. They are just like a dovii just a small package. They get about 10+inches long, and are very territorial cichlids.
8.) Nandopsis Salvini. This species are easily the toughest cichlid out there. I had a couple that would fight with red devil's and win! They are very colorful and are small too, about 6-7+inches long.
9.) Nandopsis Uropthalmus. The Mayan cichlid. They are very underrated as far as aggression goes. They get about a foot long, and are very persistent cichlids when they are fighting.
10.) Parachromis Managuense. The Jaguar cichlid. Jaguar cichlids are big cichlids, can reach 18+inches long. Jaguar's are very predatory, they will eat other cichlids if they can fit in their mouths.
11.) Amphilophus Festae. The Red Terror cichlid. This species is very colorful, easily the most beautiful cichlids around. A lot of them are aggressive, but I have seen some peaceful ones.
12.) Amphilophus Trimaculatus. The three spot cichlid. This species are big bruisers, though I have seen a lot of peaceful ones.
