Yet another ZooDiver build thread (Shark display)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks.

Here's the view I get while hand feeding at the top. Sorry it's a bit rough. Hard to hold a camera and feed at the same time. I was more concerend about keeping all ten fingers rather than getting good shots. Haha

That is absolutely awesome!
Can I ask what is the diameter of the tank?

Great work. You must be so proud

It's 12 ft (4 meters) across.

What do you want to see?

It has a 5 hp pump that pulls right from the display, used to run into a canister and then UV - returns back to the display.
Twin stand pipes feed into a big sump - drains into four 4" lines with 100 micron filter socks on them. Twin 1.5 hp pumps pull off the sump, into canisters (Jacuzzi Sure-Lock) and return to the display.
Also pulling from the sump are twin RK2 pumps (1/2 hp each) that feed a pair of RK2 8 ft fluidized sand beds. Those tie together into the big RK2 pt skimmer and then empties into a bio-tower (bio-balls) that is molded into the sump.

Hi Matt,
That description is great. I'm planning something similar in around 3-5 years time, so it gives me lots of info. I've also just started reading the Elasmobranch Husbandry Manual, which is great for indepth (pardon the pun) reading.
I personally started to consider and oval tank, but the dimensions would be prohibitive, so a round tank would be better suited.
I'm just researching Filtration and LSS' at the moment, and this topic has been a great help.
Thanks

Hi Matt, I would be one of those newer folks what hasn't seen a build before by you. Absolutely stunning. I am extremely impressed with the care with which you handled the stars of the tank! :)

This is totally off-track, so maybe you can direct to another thread if it already exists, but I am curious to learn more about buffing and polishing acrylic while the tank is filled -- ie, what steps are involved as opposed to a buff/polish on an empty tank? I'd love to hear more about doing both the exterior and the interior work!

Really can't argue with those results, fantastic work.
