The Freshwater Ladyfish and Tarpon! (Need Info)

So I have heard of an seen freshwater ladyfish and tarpon. I am buying a tank dedicated to some freshwater tarpon. I am pretty sure that putting theses fish into freshwater stunts their growth which is fine, adleast to me. I can catch ladyfish all day long in brackish. It is so hard to find info on converting to freshwater. If I was to catch a ladyfish how would I acclimate it do I just put it into freshwater? Any help Will be greatly appreciated!

Although tarpon and ladyfish may occasionally visit freshwater estuaries, they do not live in freshwater. They are marine fish and will not survive long term in freshwater.
 
I know that their life cycle is shortened and people do have them in tanks but thanks for the info. Anyone know how much the life cycle is shortened?
 
Both species of Megalops can be either freshwater or salt or anything in between. The fish are capable of living in both environments and often do. Freshwater fish generally feed on crustaceans and saltwater fish generally feed on schooling baitfish such as herring or mullet. Because of this, oceanic fish and freshwater fish tend to have different growth characteristics. Tarpons can and do live their entire life in freshwater in the wild, but freshwater fish tend to stay smaller.

Other Monster Fish would be the correct section, but for some reason most people post about this things in Other Characins. :confused:
 
I have seen both Ladyfish and Jack Crevally living in full fresh water grown well over 3 feet in lengh. These fish lived in a Koi pond located at the Pagoda Hotel/Restuarant in Oahu, Hawaii.
 
haha that's awsome what I'm planning on doing is getting a bigger upgrade tank for christmas and doing sand bottom with driftwood, 2 ladyfish, 1 tarpon, 1 rocket gar, and one bichir sound good? Who objects lol?
 
The tarpons will outgrow the rocket gar at a dramatic rate and probably end up eating it. Just something to consider.
