Hopefully mine starts comming out in the light like yours. Mine currently hides under the driftwood and has become territorial. He will beat on both my raphael and my wels catfish lol. He has tattered the wels fins.
She just turned 14 years in my care on January 5th.
I got her from John and Fred at Pets Plus in Lockport, NY in 1999. She was 12.7 cm (5 inches) when I got her and she measured 83.8 cm (33 inches) on feb 7, 2010. That was the day she was caught in the 56kl/15kg, measured, then moved to my 196kl/52kg. She has grown at least 5cm (2 inches) since then.
My smaller one is now about 69cm (27 inches} I got her from Jerry Draper at the Tropical Fish Room in Brantford, Ont on April 28, 2000 at 7.6cm. She was measured at 64.8cm on Feb 7, 2010.
I have owned only one other and it was a male. I got it in 1992 at 17.8cm from Big Al's Mississauga, Ont and it died in 2004 at 63.5cm.
I give you the sizes and dates so you can see the rates mine grew. I don't feed as much or as often as other MFK members.
I had a dim hope you'd correct me, Michael, and you came through. Your data quality is superb as always. Do you know if yours is the biggest (to your knowledge) in captivity? She is 35" = 89 cm, and 14 years now then, probably 16-17 kg at least.
