These are not Dats, they are a saltwater species of fish.

Vancouver, where did that picture come from? That isn't a Dat. That looks like the other fish that wasn't a Dat.

those fish being mistaken for dats are

Treefish (Sebastes Serriceps).
catch them regularly here. They make great table fare.

I figured a Californian would chime in sooner or later. It's amazing how much they resemble one another. Many Dat owners in here including myself were not aware of something out there that looks very similar. Pretty cool and informative "fun fact".


Now.... Any more real wild dat pics out there? They're always a gem to see.
