Sachs aquaculture and Jonahs aquarium both sell melanistic gambusia (mosquitofish) whenever they have them in stock.....really cool looking little predators.
I have seen the melanistic Gambusia males several miles south of here, they were not common but if you were persistent you could net a few. Trouble is the females are drab and Gambusia are mean, nasty little fish, which I no longer keep, even in an outdoor pond. Used to keep them with African Cichlids if that is any indication of their nature and they held their own for months. There is a melanistic form of the Golden Top Minnow that is quite striking, but I have never caught one.

I have caught melanistic golden top minnows in the water lillys near blue springs in Florida. I was also snorkling in wekiva springs near blue springs in Florida and noted several melanistic American Mollies. A species I have yet to note melanism in.

U mean mollies? Xanthistic mollies are the orange domestic strains, lesucistic are the silver, and melanistic are the black mollies

Im currently trying to catch two melanistic long nose gar in a creek near me. One is small enough to be domesticated. The other is a monster and would be my personal best gar if I caught it.

I believe he is talking about the wild mollies, not the aquarium bred ones. Melanistic wild mollies and black mollies are not same fish as black mollies are solid complete black where the melanistic wild mollies are just grey mollies with black spots.

I have seen a wild (not stocked) albino channel catfish while diving in a local quarry. Swam about half a foot from me then went beyond my field of vision. First wild albino I have ever seen in person.
