Just had a thought.... I'm sure its been done before! Can I put Flourish Root Tabs in the hob for the pothos roots? Would this have any adverse effects? View attachment 994544

1st off nice pothos in all of your tanks, especially for the 4 month old! That is great :)

2nd: not sure if root tabs are beneficial without substrate, I could be wrong. Also they thrive on mainly nitrate/ammonia so if anything it may help strengthen the roots or brighten the leaves but I think the way you have it going is most efficient ATM but you could definitely try it and report the results!

1st ~ Thanks :D
2nd ~ The hob has pea gravel to help hold in the roots (and maybe some bb). There's a better view of the gravel in my mini baskets in the 110. Ill stick tabs under the gravel & definitely post results. This may be a good time to expand my experiments... An hob with root tabs and a second hob without tabs....

Every plant varies with the genes that make up its characteristic variables so 2 different plants with similar conditions wont even hold completely accurate. But I'm sure you'll be able to tell if the roots tabs are working having had pothos for awhile now!

The worst case scenario is that the roots absorb the nutrients in the tabs instead of nitrate/ammonia in the water but since there's always water rushing thru the roots its would still have to eat the waste... maybe a little of both?

Excited for the results!

BTW: My lace leaf hasn't grown since I basically moved it and last week I placed a half dozen sinking NLS pellets in the substrate around the bulb and guess what! In that 4 days 2 new leaves have sprouted, biggest being 4" long..... pretty funny.

Seems like a waste putting root tabs in for the pothos.

I thought the whole point of putting in the plant was to reduce the waste in the aquarium by adding a natural way to extract them?

Here is my latest pothos project. 37 Gallon Community tank.
Wow those are some nice pothos, definitely not your regular variance! Marble or queen most likely, same plant just has different genes that exhibit irregular colors/patterns that you wouldn't normally see. Now with over 3300 species in the Aroids family it could be a different plant but I'm pretty sure its pothos. Either way looks great!

The point is to see if it possibly helps growth/speed/color etc. Obviously no fertilizers are required but the plant in the wild has leaves that can reach 3' and flower, so who knows if this experiment will help the potential or do nothing?

I'm sure the effects will be positive for the pothos.

Good luck with your experiment!
