if you want to feed a variety I would suggest also looking into different types of pellets. With tilapia you can also feed catfish. I would suggest pellets though to go along with tilapia and catfish. With pellets you have am enormous amount of variety and some brands that especially are good such as hikari and NLS.

The intake and out flow from the filter go through the back of the tank so we could have a full cover lid. The water line is just below those. Even though the holes are fitted to the pipe and are sealed, we are keeping it below them.

Wait so you keep the water below the in take and output for your filter?

The water level is below the output. The intake is below the water. That way, the intake is fully submerged and the output helps to agitate the surface of the water.

Actually, Both tubes pass through the back wall of the tank just above the water line. The filter intake comes through to 90* then down so that it draws water along about 4" of it's length through a series of narrow slots (lots of lots). I designed it this way to have a more gentle diffused draw rather than a strong suction concentrated in one small area.
The out flow tube enters the tank a takes a 90* turn parallel to, and just above the waterline to provide aeration and a mild current that can be directionally controlled by twisting the tube.

I have a question... Is it safe for me to feed superworms (zophobas moro) to my Ornate Bichir? I thought I was grabbing earthworms, but got these suckers by mistake.
