Also, would it improve the odds of it holding if I turned the glass upside down and used this damaged corner on top instead of the bottom?

Still risky. I would look into getting a replacement sheet of glass. I would have to imagine a glass shop could make you a bowfront piece...I don't even think you'd be lookin at that much money either.

That's good to know, I feared it would cost more than it would be worth.
All really depends on how good a deal you got on that tank lol. If you practically stole it then its definitely worth it.

Certainly didn't steal it, but a great deal before encountering all of the issues that have come up. That it's a large bowfront and an aquarium that is out of production makes me want to give a little more effort to making it work.

Hi,
I've built a few tanks (not a pro) but they worked!
if the glass is sharp (rough cut unfinished) you can use a Diamond file or Diamond Honing pad/stone to break the edge (not a break like a crack but a break edge chamfer)

The last build I made had a missing bit in the corner and it leaked so I applied what can only be called a generous helping of silicone, it fixed the leak but boy was it ugly!
i don't see why the panel cannot be rotated so the chipped corner is at the top, that's what I would do but it depends on how bad the corner looks, which way the vents run and if there is any heavy shelling in the panel. Given the weight it's a tough call. (Yes I have experience as a glazier)

photographic evidence,

(errrrm, the bodge!) red circles denote leaky bits!

the fix worked though.

the only tanks I didn't make are the 3 in the back corner (one with lights on and the small 15g are manufactured)
the one in the corner top shelf is somebody else's DIY, but it was well made and CHEAP!

My first tank and build, as a glazier I sure wasn't gonna pay all that for some glass!

Thanks for the info. I hadn't checked in on this thread in a while. Didn't have much luck with two local glass shops, so I've decided to move on for now. I have sealed the edges in packing tape to prevent further damage and have placed them in storage. Hoping to get back to rebuilding it at some point, but disappointed it didn't all come together. Just a tough reminder never to trust people when buying used tanks. They might not be out to deceive you, they just might not have known what the hell they were doing.

I would flip the glass like you said. It shouldn't cause any harm..just fill your tank a bit lower.
