The green board are there for addition horizontal sway support, not just for screws.

I used to have a 2" thick walled MDF stand for a 90 gal acrylic. The stand slowly absorbed water and started to buckle. The top of the 90 cracked, and the back bowed by a half inch. I gave it away before anything else happened.

Was wondering if anyone had run the numbers on 3/4 in plywood?
I find plywood to be more resistant to warping and expanding than dimensional lumber.
I was also wondering if using other methods of joinery affected the numbers much? As an example, if I do use 2x4's when building my next stand I'd prefer to use lap joints (in addition to glue). I've always felt a lap joint was much stronger than a butt joint, but it does reduce the surface area of the 2x4, and these calculations factor in the full surface of the end of the 2x4?
Any thoughts on the above questions?

I was just wondering the same thing. I would think all the moisture would cause warping?
