Acutirostris are awesome if u can find them. Pretty peaceful for a pike. If they're 3-4" I assume you're talking about aquascapes which are belly crawlers LOL
Yea, nice catch lol. The only other person that I've seen selling them is john (snookn21) but they were large and that was over the summer so he's probably out.

So far all I can say is....wow! Why didn't I get into pikes sooner? These guys eat like pigs, they're inquisitive, and aren't skittish at all.

totally agree, I just got a single little sax. pike a while ago and it was immediately my favorite fish, I had put him into a tank with some guianacara fry that were hiding in nooks and crannies of the drift wood etc and watching him race around investigating where they could be was super cool. very intelligent critters. I'm pretty jealous of those atabapo 2's you have there.

Yeah. Johns supplier had them for awhile but no longer has any. They're really nice pikes smaller mouth and peaceful. Adults conditioned correctly are very pretty. Let us know how adding new Tankmates goes for ya... A feeding video would also be cool :D

Really like them. Be sUre to keep the water very clean as they grow and soft to resist getting HITH. As for the acutirostris, I agree with Jacob, they are belly crawlers.

Go with larger dithers than 1 inch severums. They should mix well with something g in the 3 or 4 inch range.

Thanks, I try to keep the water clean it's pretty easy right now because they have a 75g to themselves and I do weekly wc's. As far as soft I would probably have to add some catappa leaves or something huh? I normally don't fool around with the hardness, what's the best way?

I plan on grabbing some tankmates for them from the oca event next weekend, probably some uaru or chocolates or maybe some atabapo severums.

And......as you stated my guys are now showing signs of hith:mad: even with clean water. Its crazy how sensitive these guys are. So I treated the tank twice with tetra parasite guard and softened my water through a combination of seachem discus buffer, sera super peat, and catappa leaves. Hopefully it clears up and works, but it's going to be a battle with the liquid rock we have as water up here. I still haven't added any tankmates but I added a few plants.

Sorry to hear. I've been learning since I got my heckel discus in and someone recommended I add roobios tea. You want to orange loose leaf type and add it in nylon bags to your filter to give it a dark tea color. It doesn't soften water but apparently it adds natural bactericides to the water along with some chemicals that help the fish relax. I used it and my discus improved after I struggled with them the first week.

I get mine on amazon. That with peat added to the aquarium should help a lot.

As for discus buffers, they are used to reconstitute RO water and actually serves to add minerals back to the water. You'll end up adding more TDS if your using it on tap. Peat acts as an ion exchange and should he the only thing you use to soften water.
