No the orange loose leaf. Orange somehow came from my auto spell. Use the organic loose leaf roobios tea. I add 4 TBSP to my 180.

Sorry to hear. I've been learning since I got my heckel discus in and someone recommended I add roobios tea. You want to orange loose leaf type and add it in nylon bags to your filter to give it a dark tea color. It doesn't soften water but apparently it adds natural bactericides to the water along with some chemicals that help the fish relax. I used it and my discus improved after I struggled with them the first week.

I get mine on amazon. That with peat added to the aquarium should help a lot.

As for discus buffers, they are used to reconstitute RO water and actually serves to add minerals back to the water. You'll end up adding more TDS if your using it on tap. Peat acts as an ion exchange and should he the only thing you use to soften water.
I just realized what you said, discus buffer only drops the ph and softens the hardness of the water. Discus trace is the one that adds minerals back in the water.

As far as the roobios can I mix it with my peat in the bag or would it be best separate?

I have it in separate bags. If you check my recent post in the discus section, you'll see what the water looks like.

I just started using peat so I'm not much of an expert but I always work to purchase all natural organic Canadian sphagnum peat. I get it on amazon.

I fill a full 4x6 inch nylon bag and rinse the heck out it. Again, I'm no expert but the fact that my heckels seem happy is good enough for me.

Tanks and fish look great. Very nice scape. Are you happy with the results from the tea and the peat?
