I have 3 bluegill sunfish in a planted 55 gallon aquarium. I have tried for hours to get them with a net but they are too quick! I want to give them to my friend but I can't get them out of the tank.
How can I get some fish out of a heavily planted large aquarium?

Drain some of the tank. I don't even bother trying to catch fish in a full aquarium anymore. Drop the water to fin level... Should be easy from there.
Not at all. Just make sure you use a good water conditioner when refilling the tank.
Either that, or you can get a large bottle and place some frozen bloodworms in or something, and once the fish you are after enter the bottle, pull the bottle with the fish and transfer to a container...
^ i can attest to that when trying to pull 6 flying foxes out of my 60G planted
usually i end up taking out every single thing in my tank, including plants and ornaments; so frustrating lol
