Don't know where you could find one but I'd say they are similar to other spiny eels in that they may or may not get along with other eels depending on the fish. I used to have mine with a fire eel but it is now alone. The time that I had them together, I did not have any problems.

You are probably not getting many responses because this eel is rarer in the states from what I can tell. I don't know anyone else who has one besides me. I think there were a couple more MFKers who had one though...do a search. If you have an opportunity to snag one, I WOULD ASAP!

I have ten spiny eels simply put the species with little fish tails I keep in one tank and they are great with one another. They all get about the same size. In another tank I have the types that do not have the extra little fish tails. They all get a little larger then the aforementioned. Fire eels I have not owned as they get quite large. They all seem to get along great with one another and the other inmates. I just added one of the python spiny eel also referred to as the Borneo spiny eel. I would like to know it's specific scientific name. There was only one and I am not sure if we are even talking about the same species as there seems to be a great deal of confusion about these little guys.

Looks like the name currently in use for Borneo Python Eel is Mastacembelus cf circumcinctus which really begs the question since cf really means "looks like". However, there is a YouTube video showing a nice looking one in a big tank with big fish. Do the young ones look like the big ones? I don't know. Just googled the fish because it came up on an availability I got from a vendor and this thread was one of the results. Not a cheap fish and this is the first I've heard of it in my 27 years in the business, so it's not common.
