My Convicts have left me a surprise in there cave today.. I don't know the first thing about caring for fry... I've been trying to get my jack dempseys to breed for a year now and nothing.. Then my Convicts decided they were going to lay.. Anyways I have a pearlscale cichlid, a green terror and a Chinese algea eater in the tank with them.. They are all juveniles including the Convicts.. What should I do? What do I feed the fry? How long til they hatch? Should I move the other fish out of the tank? Any advice will be great... Am I supposed to do water changes? I'm completely clueless... I need like a care guide and I can't find one online. Thanks for any help

You watch your convicts will get your JDs going, its the pheromones in the water.
Yes man knows whats up. I had like 2 females lay within days by a breeding couple in a tank. They were on hold for a buyer so it would be easier to capture a pic and video.

if you want to keep your fry get another tank to house them. What do you feed them? Crushed flakes and brine shrimp live or frozen. Just take them out if you want to keep them. They will eat their own for a new batch anyways or the other fish will eat them. You might get a few that live.

Trust me convicts will breed from now on for a while.

They're pretty easy to raise. I would leave them in or take out if have another cycled tank and feed them brine shrimp nauplii, if you want increase your survival rate.

Well how do I take them out? They laid them on the inside of the cave wall.. And they have been protecting them very well, pretty much shredding anything that comes near.

Put some tank water in a bucket maybe a gallon then siphon them out and or net them out. I just net them out since its easier for me.

How is that cruel? You can let them with the parents thats not an issue. Your saying you want to sell them so its best you can them separated. The parents will eat a few or all of them especially if its their first batch and they do this in preparation for the next batch.

Breeders have been taking out fry for decades from their parents. Sorry to say but convicts don't fetch a lot of money. I had fry before no LFS would take them for a monetary amount.

Good luck! Its okay keep them with the parents but don't be upset if they end up eating the fry which is very common to do.
