If they are called American it's cause they're from North or South America. Some parts of Eastern North America in the South has them if you don't know.
nd I know in South American they have them

Yeah krichardson is right!
Their are American. Their are all kinds! That chart I posted. Should clear up all doubts . I'm new to the Datnoids, and I've learned soo much from two friends I have that I've met here. It will surprise you what you can find out about Datnoids, period! Very interesting fish, and I love having the ones I have!
I might get up to 5. I have three right now.
One 7 inch 3 Bar Datnoid
One 2 inch American (Silver) Datnoid
One 2 Inch Indo Datnoid. 3 bars on the right side 3 and a half on the left side

I,as well as others have always wondered how they came to be called "American Tigers"......and I have never heard of nor seen any proof that any dats are found in the Americas.

The only way they are considered American, it's because they are INVASIVE species, that's the only way I think they can be American. They came and just thrived here in the Americans. And they're are soo many invasive species, it wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure American Datnoids were invasive and now they thrive in sure! But that's what I think. Im not saying I'm right, but it's what I believe.

Unless you can cite some kind of source or proof you ought to lay off the "invasive species talk" as there are no known datnoids living in American waters.
