Hey guys.. This is my first thread.. I LOVE peacock bass. They're such extremely wonderful and majestic fish. I guess they weren't called the 'peacock bass' for nothing. I've been keeping pbasses for just about 2years now.. And i have been bothered for a pretty long time now about this matter.
As we know, some pbasses have red eyes. Mostly the WC ones. But there are also cases where pbasses such as orinos and monos that were captive bred, seems to have a pair of notable redish eyes, sometimes even a very red ones (resemble the ones that the WCs usually have which we will not discuss)
To the center of the matter, those red eyes (Captivebred ones), seems to be pretty dinamic, depends on the environments (tanks) and it really bothers me off.
So it doesn't shock me off.
I usually get my pbasses from LFS or from my bestfriend's tank. When i hunt for pbass, i hunt for the best. It really makes me happy for me to be able to find pbasses with red eyes, wheter it is CB or WC. But the thing is, when i got home and put the exact same fish into my tank, their red colored eyes seems to be gone! And boom, two hours later all that left behind are ordinary eyes. One time my friend got curious, and he asked me to let him keep the 'ex' red eye pbass, and so he kept the fish for a while. And then the day after, i check how my fish is going. The red eyes are back when the exact same fish is not in my tank! And this really broke my heart. I tried to find the causes, maybe it's my pH? My lightning? I just don't understand what are the causes of the eye color changes. Can somebody please enlighten me? What do i do to bring my pbass red eyes to their full potential? This is a photo of my monoculus. The top one is a pic when the fish just came into my tank (fresh from lfs tank)
And the bottom one is a pic 2 hours later... The red eye is gone.
