I also used this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002DGKCC/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1463623007&sr=1&keywords=aquarium+bacteria
I didn't buy it again, as it didn't fit my budget. It is $35 per gallon which treats about 640 gallons. With it treating such little amount of water, which I didn't know at the begging, I can assume that it is made to very quickly cycle your tank, that is if it is as concentrated as I think it is, considering it has an earthy scent.
The reviewers also seem to have gone nuts for it.

Have you noticed more ads in the general aquaria forum? I hope they know that I don't even bother to read them along with most other forum members.
yes, those ads are annoying. I don't read them either.

So, I was doing a daily 40-50% water change, but it never brought down the nitrites below 2 ppm. The two 50'% water changes last night brought it down to 0, but this morning it is already testing 0.25 ppm. I'm afraid when 24 hrs rolls around the nitrites will be above 2.0 again. Ugh

You just need to have patience. It can take a couple months to fully cycle. I would cut back on the water changes.

I've usually cycled within 3 or 4 weeks. I've n
Just never had nitrites be this high for more than 7 days or so, usually much less

UPDATE: the two back to back 50% water changes was enough to keep nitrites down for 24hrs so I could add tetra safe start. Water is crystal clear now and tank has been stable with 0 nitrites abd 0 ammonia for a few days, That stuff really helps a cycling tank!
