Hey all, so I already have a FX6 on my 75 gallon and it is working great but later on I am upgrading to a 200 gallon tank but do not want a sump on it. Now, I know that the FX6 is rated for 400 gallon, and whether that is true or not I want to find out. Have any of you ever tried JUST a fx6 on a tank bigger than 200 gallons with success? Thanks!

I think a single FX-6 would not be enough filtration for a 200g tank. I will be setting up a 180g this fall and I will be using an fx-6 and three aquaclear 110s.

Even if it were possible it is risky. I prefer more than one means of filtration as redundancy in case of equipment failure which at some point, 100% will fail. This leaves you with a plan B by the time you notice something wrong and will reduce or eliminate losses during that time. Use 30-40% of the manufacturers recommended tank volume as a baseline for decoding. Rarely (I have yet to fond one) will a filter have a recommendation for our monster tanks. We need higher flow and turn overs than most lesser bio loads of the average aquarist. So it's a no for me

That's why I like to run aquaclears with my canisters. You get great water movement and like was mentioned earlier if one fails you still have other means of filtration happening in the tank.

Hey guys, so when I got the FX6 I pulled off my Fluval 110 off cause I thought if I just put the bio balls in the FX6 then I would be fine, but I took a reading of the water and I have ammonia! I think I recycled my tank and the ammonia gets up to .5, what should I do? I already put in TSS and the ammonia keeps fluctuating between 0 and .5 how long will my fish be ok? Thanks guys!
