Hello everyone,

New to the forum.

Currently have a 2" Blue whale/shark catfish (Cetopsis.coecutiens) in a 40 gallon long tank, with 20 zebra danios. Got the little bugger a little over a week ago, and he's been doing quite well since. Paid a little more than usual, but you don't really see these cats too often. Fairly hard to track down this species here in Toronto, but the larger and specialty aquarium stores do get them in stock (about once a year if they're lucky).

Kept this species twice, once back in 2010 and again in 2013. Planning to grow out this little monster/parasite, and eventually toss him into my 120 gallon tank (which I used to keep my fahaka puffer fish in). His current tank is very bare (purposely), setup with white pool filter sand as the substrate, a few small stones here and there, canister and sponge filter, power head, dwarf sagittaria clusters on either side of the tank, and giant duckweed along the surface.

Diet regiment is as follows: Northfin Krill gold pellets (1mm) as it's stable (fed 3-4 times a week), frozen-thawed bloodworms once a week, fine brunoise of salmon trimmings once or twice a month, Northfin Veggie formula pellets (1mm) twice a month, and New Life Spectrum Grow formula (which will be supplemented once a month. Trying to stay away from fatter foods, seeing as how cats love gorging themselves.

Looking forward to chatting with everyone and fellow blue whale catfish keepers.

I think I recall reading that those a mean little buggers. How's it treating the zebs?

The danios are all accounted for, surprisingly. The danios stay by the top, while the blue whale/shark guards the bottom. The speed and number of the danios seem to work well in out maneuvering the cat. He seems more interested in the Northfin Krill Gold pellets anyhow. He seems to only chase them when they swim down to the bottom of the tank. Once he's had enough to eat, he becomes pretty docile. I guess time will tell as the fish grows.
