I noticed petsmart sells new 125 gallon tanks for less than 500$. (Normal 72x18 footprint) They come with a cheap stand and crappy lights, but it seems like it's still a good deal for just the tank. I have been thinking about replacing one of my 125's and was wondering if these are of good quality. It's cheaper than some craigslist deals I have seen.

I bought petsmart tank from 5 gallons to 90 gallons, no issue at all for many years. Petsmart/Petco do have some sweet deal from time to time.

Depend on craiglist area, whole set 125g system often selling for less than 200 bucks.
You would need to search daily and swift contact when its show up or someone else will get it then re-sell for profit.

In the last two months I've seen a handful of 125 for free with stands and canopy.

The petsmart tanks are good. My LFS sells 125 with stand and canopy used for 250 bucks. It comes with filter and gravel and heater. They get them donated in so they sell them fast and cheap.

That's pretty cheap. I have checked craigslist every morning for the past 6 months around here and most 125's are in the 4-500$ range and they are really scratched up. I may just buy the petsmart tank to replace my 125 if no deals pop up soon. In addition, I am searching for a tank with a larger footprint than the standard 125. Usually when I do find one though, it's more than 1,000$.

A basic 125 should be $400 or so. I paid a bit more, I think $440 for a Aqueon with black sealant.

I know the Top Fin ensemble you are talking about, and I would not want that stand. Looks like total junk to me. The Top Fin aquariums seem fine though.

Yeah I agree, I would not use the stand or the lights

I've seen people on this forum say that glasscages is a great place to buy tanks, but a 125g is usually in 750+ range. Is there any other places worth checking?

What city are you from? LFS usually charge less than any petsmart and petco and they can order whatever you want from them. Thats the case with my lfs but every lfs is different. I became friends with the manager at a lfs and he just sold a 125 at cost to a client because he was going to buy fish gravel and needed help plumbing it as well. It was 799 with stand canopy and glass tops. Very nice tank as well. He said the tank usually sells for 1100 but we give at cost because they spend usually 300-500 with them for fish and etc.

I'm from southeast Missouri. (Cape Girardeau) I have a pretty good relationship with the lfs that just opened up in town, I will see what they can do for me. The stores in St. Louis are not helpful at all. Pretty grumpy people up there lol.
