That's more sensible but I've already addressed this scenario. You will be hard pressed to keep your pet alive and well. Even though it'd make an interesting and edifying experiment, it may turn out to be a rather cruel experiment IMHO.

thanks for all your advice, greatly appreciate! I think I'm going for it. I got the dimensions for the cave and the materials comming in. two 500w heaters are comming in the mail tomorrow. hopefully this experiment turns out okay. at least everyone can learn from the outcome of my risks. keep you guys updated!

I personally say u should also add a greenhouse film over the pond also.

i checked average winter temperatures for your area and it's a average of
of low 40's and mid 50's at night during winter...so if your serious about keeping
tropical fish in the pond i suggest you invest in a reliable source or method
of heating to heat the pond properly and keep it warm instead of doing a
risky experiment and putting your rtc in harm while in the process. also it needs
to come out and eat and etc etc so what good will this little cave be if the rtc
isnt inside of it at all times? if it even is successful. not trying to be rude or anything
just being blunt, so dont take it the wrong way. if the green house isnt a option
try to make/buy insulated covers like jacuzzi covers along with a proper heat source.
since the pond is cement it should retain heat easily.

Thoroughly agree with our two colleagues above about covering the pond. That almost goes without saying.
