Side by side comparison to a marble for those who think they look "just like marbles" lol
Along with a few older photos of mine. It really is crazy to watch them change, and see how quickly they transform. A friend said they should be called the chameleon ray, and I agree 100%. Colors can look completely different day to day...

lol richard cracks me up every time. they look nothing like marble but ok sure! you're totally right about the fact that they change so much. but get your fill while they're young because once they're adult and their marbling comes in i think that will be over.

Mine are super bold and very aggressive. They pounce on food like it's nobody's buisness and it's not uncommon for them to nip each other during feeding time if one thinks the other is getting more than him/her lol

But joking aside depending on the coloration of your bosemani they do look similar to high quality marble rays. They are still very nice though

different people see different things. they do share some similar traits but when you stand in front of a tank with the 2 species you see them as completely different rays nothing alike. the way they move, eat etc isn't the same either.

the main difference is, royal marbles, etc., after they get old, they get pretty ugly., with boesemani, even at very large and old fish, the spots get more contrast and colors. I've seen wild ones 24" and they look just stunning. Most marbles look muddy when they're old.

of course if you compare one of the uglier boesemani to one of the best looking marbles, the similarities will be closer at some point of its age.

I remember when I first brought in a goliath, people didn't realize that goliath is actually different. Many websites list vittatus as goliaths, until you put them side by side, they're completely different.

same with pygocentrus piraya compared to a nattereri., even all aquarium books said the only way to tell was from the tuffed adipose fin at an old age.

Most of these are due to the fact that they never kept them side by side or seen in person.
