If you want to run a herbie style overflow, I would recommend getting two of the Jebao DCP 6000 pumps. I have two of the 8000's on my setup but I was wanting about 1600gph without working the pumps too hard. You will definitely be able to get 1400gph out of two 6000's and not be working them hard at all.

Also, the reason I recommend these for the herbie style overflow is because the pump has 70 flow settings compared to the 10 available on the DCT and DCS. You can adjust it from 30% to 100% in single digit increments. It allows you to make really fine adjustments with the pump controller in order to achieve the proper siphon flow to keep the overflow completely silent. In addition, my DCP 8000 is running on setting 60 out of 100 and I can't hear it even if I try. They are very power efficient as my 8000 is currently only running about 35W (the controller displays the current watt usage right on it).

I will have to look into them. This move feels like its coming faster and faster with the amount of planning and learning I am going to have to do. Looks like I need to re adjust some things

Is this a 6' long tank?

You can make the top frame of the stand using 2x6 framing and eliminate the vertical supports completely. I used this method for a 6' long glass 125G tank and had no issues with support.

Make the stand tall enough to allow easy access to any equipment you use including a taller sump and the ability to remove such equipment without having to remove the aquarium.

It is also helpful to make the inside bottom of the stand flush with the framing to slide equipment in and out easily without having to lift it over the lip.

Yup 6' long. And can you take a picture of your stand so I can visualize it a little bit better? I will be adjusting the height of the stand as I go to give me plenty of room and clearance

Thats true. and who knows, I think jc used the 1" into his pump then into 1.5" swing checks?

But hopefully one of them can help. I was looking through ragin_cajun ragin_cajun build as well and found it very helpful. Im hoping I can somehow have the overflows attached to the back at midwest and herbie down from there. Now I guess I will have to do a 55 sump which would probably be better for my sized tank and have the two pond boxes and pumps. Should I have both pumps be rated for around the 1400gph mark since my edrain is 1.5 or have both of them combined equal around 1400?
Yeah he used checks. I figure between checks and drilling a siphon break i should have minimal back flow into the sump.

Look you dont have to get any one size sump. Of course bigger is always more preferred but even a small sump would work. You just play will the levels once set up. Account for back flow mark it on your sump then when your refilling you know never to fill above the mark you made or it will overflow the sump when you turn the sytem off. I'll take a pic of what im talking about later

Sounds good looking forward to pics.

Heres kind of my stand idea from seeing a few online and trying to put something together that will be able to hold a wider and larger sump. Can you guys give me some pointers? Worried about it folding left or right. Will have a solid piece of plywood on the back to try and stop that

jvc66 jvc66 this is what inwas talking about.
1st pic showes the water level with the pump running (black line)
20170202_084635.jpg

This is what the pumps off and the water back flowed through the return pipe. Would be much higher and flood the sump if not for the siphon break drilled at the return line in the tank.
20170202_084527.jpg

Now with thise two lines i know the level to refill the sump when the system is off (during water change) of toping it off while the system is on.

When its off i fill to the blue line knowing that any higher i am at risk for flooding.

While its running and i just want to top it off (adding more water) i fill to the black line knowing if i fill any higher i am again at risk for flooding when i turn the system off.

You just have to play around with it once you set everything up.

These marks are from when i first set it up. Testing various levels until inwas comfortable with the off and running level.

You could use tape instead of a marker...i dodnt care what it looked like inder the hood lol. Sump is 30 gal and display tank is 150 so not allot of room for error
