I'd call it a Florida, looks alot closer to a Florida then a spotted. Although I've been known to call spotted gar Florida gar too. So let's be technical and I'll guess

I caught him sitting at the surface earlier today, so I took a piece of trout and put one end of it in the water and he SNAPPED down on it so hard I could hear it echo lol took long enough... fasted him for over a week when I bought it. Going to pick a group of 4 Saxatilis Pikes tomorrow at a LFS I haven't been to in over 15 years....giving me a great deal too - 4 for $20 around 3"-4". I'd like to get a pair or 2 out of them, but w/ my luck they will all be the same sex :( Gotta try to find a male Svenii now too

Before my last move I kept a Spotted, he was a paaaaaain to get on pellets. But eventually I got him switched over. I was sad when he died in my move.

that sucks man. I'm gonna try Carni-sticks soon, but for now i'm content w/ him eating baked Trout since I have about 20-30lbs to get rid of before April 1st and I want to stock the tank w/ a few proven pellet eaters before I start giving them to him, that way he can see they are food by watching the others. Right now he's in a bare 55g w/ 2 Rubberlip Plecos and bunch of Pothos and Arrowhead plants. I want to keep the stock light cuz it's only got a Marineland Penguin 150, a Tetra "in-tank submersible" ( looks like it's made for low-water semi-aquatic reptiles/amphibians) rated to 40g and a submersible Duetto rated to 20g, so I still got 90g of filters on it, but when he gets bigger it won't be enough.

They seem to be like Polys w/ the light bio-loads from what I can tell, is that accurate?

Thiis thing, but I have a different bio-sponge and an extra filter pad pre-filter before the carbon bag

Yeah, although to be honest with you I've kept sumps for about 10 years now so I'm always over filtered. But from what I've gathered their load isn't too bad.

My two big tanks turn over at 13 times per hour, and 16 times per hour. Plus each has a sizeable sponge filter. My little tanks are sponge filter/ power head combos. It's what works for me, although I don't knock the hang on the backs or canisters.

I should add, that that's "allegedly" what the turnover rate is. I'm trying new return pumps. So far I'm very happy with them. Although I'm not entirely sure if the flow rate is accurate. But that's a different argument all together lol.

These work just like "corner sponge filters" you can make your own pretty easy! I'll see if I can find the YouTube video for it. Pretty much just a small pump at the bottom drawing water through the filter then pumping over the top.

I wouldn't trust PetSmart to keep the Citrinellus and Labiatus bloodline separated - most employees barely know anything about cichlids save a select few. Chances are good they are Midevils unless from a reliable source and known catch location
That explains why one looks like a red devil and one looks like a Midas
