Covering it with black plastic would. Just hot glue a 6 mil trash bag skin, on a screen.
Better yet, use a glass mirror as a barrier. Between the light and dark side.
Probably photosynthesis diatomaceous growth. I get it in my hatchery tank. Wipes off easily.

Wanted to get your thoughts on this. Ive been getting algae growth on the laundry bag of bio thats under the water lettuce.

Covered it witha piece of roughed up acrylic and a few screens.

Primarily to stop the growth on the bio bag but was thinking if i get algae growth on the acrylic/screens i could.move the water lettuce to another tank.

Think theres a chance it will grow ?
Alger will grow, but without an air water interface, it will be more of an algae scum.
A power head with an air ventri, blowing on it would be a good grower.

J jaws7777 - Looks like the WL is growing well under that lighting. Approximately how many watts total are those LEDs and how many inches are they above the WL?

45w hard to say maybe 3 to 8 inches. The panel is.on an angle. Trying to figure out the humidity thing. Some sites say WL likes humidity and other say no. If i cover the portion if the sump humidity increases but it also looks like droplets of water form on the leafs which i thought was bad ? 20170319_165134.jpg

The WL should be fine with water drops on it or even a fine mist. It grows a lot in outdoor ponds with fountains so WL is always getting wet. The argument against too much water forming on top might be that the plant will absorb some of it through the leaves and, because it's like distilled water, would supply no nutrients. I don't see any problem with it though. I'd leave the top on unless you notice some change in it.

I turned the pump up to max flow (rated for 120gph) as some of the purigen was settling. Seems much better now.

Im wondering if this is going to be effective though. Usually this stuff is put in canisters or hob with much higher flow rate.

Most fluidized sand filters are low flow, but still remove ammonia. It should work fine.
Airlift purigen waterfall. Maybe?
