300 gallon poly tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice :). I've used water lettuce on my dwarf snakehead tanks in the past for nitrate reduction and top cover / light reduction. Should work a feat in poly tanks as well. Ive got a bit still growing in my planted 75g, but need to keep giving it away, as having the aerial advantage it can outcompete my submerged plants both for nutrient and light.

At one time it took over the whole surface and the trailing roots provided cover for rosy barb fry. Pretty soon i was overpopulated with rosy barbs and plants, and underpopulated with the dwarf snakes. Lol.

O

Thats kind of whats bugging me its working well in the smaller tank but didnt do much on the poly tank

Did it show the same rate of growth in both tanks? Were other factors similar? i.e. Nutients, current, photo period?

Mine tend to grow best in low surface current, decent light, and cooler temps. I had some near an fx5 outlet and it wouldn't grow well at all, but across the tank it was fine. The only difference I could tell was proximity to surface current / turbulence.

Its been dividing like crazy. To the point where i couldnt count anymore plants (stopped at 55) both under grow lights the odd thing is in the 150 (with less plants) they are not to far from the return, getting quite a bit of current. In the sump the surface is like glass.

Would the algae growth die off at night or during the lights off time amd add to the nitrate reading s?

Sorry, I quoted you and it got screwed up.

The seller I ordered from chose 2 month shipping, so I have to wait a while.

Algae or plants dying can increase ur ammonia and nitrite levels. If u got enough bb and media it'll convert over to higher nitrate. Could be the reason I saw ur numbers go up.

I had a sneaky suspicion tjat could have caused it. How long do you think it will take for a complete algae die off ? Ordered some seachem excell to help

Not sure but hold on the excel. Someone just posted about fish acting funny and he/she has been dosing excel. There are issues with fish acting funny with this stuff if not dosed right.
