I am switching my tank from gravel to sand and i have 2 aquaclear 110s running in it. I am looking for a good prefilter for my filter that will keep sand out them but am having a hard time finding one. So if anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

I use medium or coarse black sponge blocks, cut it in a cube/rectangular shape, make a hole in the middle and insert the intake. And then you also get a spare cycled sponge in time if you need to set up a quarantine tank :) Its actually less intrusive on the eye than some fancy pre-filters like the eheim ones.

I use an ATI Filter Max III pre-filter on an AC-70. It's great for the price ... something like $7.50. It's a sponge filter which comes with a few extra plastic pieces to fit different sized intakes. One neatly fits the AC70 intake.

Make sure it can also fit the AC110 but I'd think it should.

These will absolutely fit AC 110s. I'm using this prefilter on all 13 of our AC 110s. Keeps the main sponge cleaner, thus making servicing the AC 110s easier.

Poly-fil. Its a pillow stuffing you can easily get at Walmart. Basically filter floss, but much cheaper. This stuff traps everything and because its so cheap, I just throw it away and replace with a new wad during cleaning. I use this as a 1st stage filter media in all my filters.

I have even stretched pot scrubbies over my hob intakes but they might be to porous for sand

Like coryloach does, I used cut sponges.
Just to be sure I don't choke the filter, I try to rinse them daily in some old tank water.
I can go 2-3 weeks without washing them without a hint of a problem, and I've done so. but I do wash them weekly during a water change. You can see one of mine @ 0:03 on the below video.
