I'm back! And trying my best to pick up where I left off.
In keeping with my tradition of naming my fish after Game of Thrones characters, and in honor of how much yellow this fish is beginning to display, I decided to name him after the fabled leader of the Golden Company: Maelys the Monstrous.
This fish is very special to me. I am currently battling cancer, and just after I went under the knife and recovering, I had a little money burning a hole in my pocket. I decided that some of this money would be well spent in filling up my fish tank with some of my favorite kinds of fish. Well, I absolutely love jurs (even more than tigs lol), so I figured I may as well look into them.
Sure enough, Mark at Discus Origins had six for sale. I asked him to send me pics of his stock so I could pick my fish, if it wasn't too much trouble. Sure enough, he obliged. I found one specimen that was quite exceptional to my eyes and requested it.
This is when the story got weird.
The next day, I was told the fish was accidentally sold in an in-store transaction. I was kinda bummed, but I kept looking for another jur that was that special 'just right' caliber to want to spend my little bit of spending cash on. Things got even weirder at this point when my wife started telling me that she didn't think it was a good idea to get more fish, even though she is normally fine with it as long as the bills are paid. Hmmm.
Cut to a few days later, and I have to go with her to run errands. I'm convalescing from the surgery, and don't really feel like it, but I said what the heck and went. We ended up at UPS getting a box, which contained the fish I wanted! Turns out some friends saw that I was getting ready to buy the jur and played the best trick on me ever and bought it! Big, big props to Aw3s0m3 for spearheading this for me. I hate you too, dickhead.
Anyway, this thread is worthless without pics!
The pic Mark sent me from which I made my decision; it's easy to see the unusually good contrast and amount of yellow this fish has for a ~5" fish-
The day after going in the tank. He's thin, but that's typical of new imports IME. He eats like a champ though!
A couple days later, settled in well with nice colors. A cell phone shot.
A shot from the same day with the good camera, but against the front glass and therefore difficult to hit properly with the flash to show his colors well. This is a running problem with this fish.
Two weeks later, fattening up nicely. A cell phone shot-
The first of May. He's grown noticably by now, and getting a LOT of yellow.
Today. He's continue to lighten up some and the yellowish tinge continues to spread. I think this fish is gonna be a show stopper.
