Hi People,

Yet another post by yours truly ;-).

My Australian bass has started pooing clear hollow poo and flashing. I know most have no idea about Aussie Bass (no relation to the American or cichlid family). Not all his poo is clear.

He is in a 5ft 75g (to the Aussie readers, I know his tank is too small) with a 3000 l/ph canister, some unknown brand hob and a large sponge filter.

I just tested his water and everything is zero except Nitrates which are between 40-50ppm. I have been a little slack on wc because it's winter and I use a hose to fill up the tank plus a bad knee.

He has only a bn pleco as a tank mate and wondering if it's safe to treat the tank with aquarium salt?

Thanks for any help

Do you feed live food? If so then put a hold on that. Would suggest treating with something for internal parasites. White feces suggests a type of parasitic infection. Prazipro can be used safely with most fish and won't kill ur biological filter.

Flashing could be cause of the water. So that needs addressed.

Salt should be fine for the the pleco and bass.

It sounds like Hexamita. Use seachem metroplex
I would love to but cannot get antibiotic meds for fish in Australia. I have some general cure left over that someone somehow managed to send me from the USA, but not enough to treat the entire tank. Would making some medicated food work without medicating the tank?

We also cannot get medicated food here or seachem focus. Would just soaking his pellets in the med and letting it dry work?

Cheers

Yes if it still eats mix some general cure with it's food.

He still is eating and loves his food. Will try tomorrow, I have had him for years and don't want to lose him.
