i live in southern VA. I dont think that the silicone will flex to bad. it barely gets below freezing in the winter time and if it does it is only for a day or two. i am definitely going to build it. i had planned on taking a bunch of pictures. even bought a new camera for the event lol.

I'd say acrylic is more outdoor proof and scratches can be buffed out if needs be.
I've installed many. They come in two types....for concrete and liner. Oh, and there is one called the no-niche which is what I have on my mahseer pond. You should check out koi forums on pond builds. I have a few on MFK awhile ago. You got to be careful of fish entering the skimmer and may have to install a screen in front of it.
