Dear Monsterfishkeepers,

I am planning to upgrade my 75 gallon freshwater aquarium to 240 gallon (96 L x 24 W x 24 H). Currently I have below fishes in 75 gallon:

Tinfoil barbs x 6
Blood parrot fish x 5
Silver dollars x 8
Bala sharks x 6
Common pleco x 2
Black ghost knife fish x 1

All the above will go to my 240 gallon tank. (240 gallon build in progress)

Please suggest, what are some good medium / large peaceful colourful fish we can add to the above list for 240 gallon tank.

If you plan on keeping all those fish I would say don't add any more the tinfoil barbs and the bala shark grow to huge sizes when they are full grown you will have 12 feet of fish roughly with just those 2 species.

Oh! OK John Williams, thanks for your inputs. but I really thought to add few clown loaches, few colorful cichild and golden severums. Since most of my fish are silver color (silver dollar, tin foil barbs, bala shark) i thought to add few colourful fishes.

It probably wouldn't hurt I know my tin foils and balas all about 8 inch produce a lot of waste so I have overkill on my filtration. I have electric blue Akara in with mine and they do great together but that is the extent of my experience with mixing cichlids with balas/barbs. That is a great size tank though. I look forward to seeing it when your done.

Hi John Williams,

I am done with my 240 gallon aquarium. Still yet to add fish in it. Posting photos of it.

any colorful more community tolerant cichlids. dont get mean central american cichlids though or you'll end up with a lot of your existing fish dead or maimed.

several severums, perhaps seven, would serve most spectacularly to be sure.

and some good bottom feeders. clown loaches would certainly work. if it was me though I'd load up with some cool cats to inhabit the crevices and abundant floor space. perhaps a shoal of ornate pims. ive always wanted those but lacked the room. i recently got a jaguar catfish for my community tank and can't recommend them enough. awesome fish!

probably gonna need a lot of filtration for all that though. even with an 8 foot tank like that youll be fully loaded. do you have a sump?

You may not want to hear this, but you will be overstocked in a 240 once those fish approach full size. You should be thinking about reducing not adding.
