Jaguar or Flowerhorn?

I recently set up a 40 gallon breeder, which I plan on using as a grow out tank until I can set up a 125 or 150 this summer for a single large cichlid. I've been considering getting either a small Flowerhorn or Jaguar cichlid that I will move to the larger tank this summer. However, I am having difficulty deciding which of these two I should get. What do you guys think? Which one of these would be a better fish to get and why?

I'm of the opinion that a Jaguar deserves at least a 180 gallon tank so out of the two I say Flowerhorn.

If you don't mind me asking I would love to know your reasons for believing this. I've done a.decent amount t of reaserch into both jags and dovii and I know there is a lot of debate on the tank size for these fish. I should also mention the specific tanks I'm looking at both have a width of 24 inches and a length of 48 inches.

I don't mind at all man. The 24 inch length is good but I don't believe that 48" is quite long enough for them. But, conversely, a 125 wouldn't be good either as you've got the 72" length going for you but I don't believe that the 18" width is good enough for them.

Sure the Jag would be fine for a couple of years, but do you really want to play the upgrade game? I just hate that game man, it gives me anxiety. I rest easy knowing the tank my fish are in is adequate for life.

I'd second flowerhorn... Jag may be okay in a 150, but flowerhorn would be a sure bet... what if you can only find a 125? Jag would be fine for a while but once he's huge it'll be cramped.
Are you open to other options? Motaguense would be fine in a 125 or 150, and are badass, similar to a Jaguar

I'm definitely open to other options. I've never heard of a motaguense before though.

Are you looking for a wet pet of sorts? I second the Motaguense recommendation, they're basically a smaller, red Jag. If you're looking for a big personality then you'd be hard pressed to find a better suggestion than a flowerhorn for that sized tank.
