SENEGAL BICHIR fry disappearing/dying at 1cm size

I have a good pair of senegal bichir whom regularly lays eggs for me. I collect the eggs and place them on a separate tub to hatch and grow. I however, can't pass the 1cm mark and the frys either disappear or die. I'm getting frustrated on collecting and hatching them but I don't want to give up as this will be my first attempt to breed fish. I don't want to leave the eggs on the parents tank as they'll eat them. however, I was surprise to see a 5cm fry one time I was cleaning and grow it up to about 20cm now.

Appreciate any ideas or tips you can share on how to successfully raise these frys. I collected two batch of eggs the pass days and waiting for them to hatch. I have microworms as food for the frys.

Even with one that is still a great accomplishment I think I suggested the Marina Breeding boxes because they hang on the main aquarium and don't have to worry about changeing water and parameters stay consistent. The other suggestion would be is to place live plants on the bottom so that the fry that survive can hide. I know one member has a setup like this with their Ornate's.

yep, taken your suggestion on board tlindsey . it managed to increase survival rate. my problem now is keeping the frys alive pass the 1cm mark.

Noticed my male nudging one of the gravid females a few days ago. Hopefully I will get to collect a few eggs so I can rear them in the Marina Breeding box.

The microworms would definitely stay on the floor of their container. Ill take some pics later of the container im keeping the frys.

I even brought some to my local fish store to grow but stayed there for only two weeks and they start dying.

I was thinking it has to do with developing their air breathing organs as all frys dont pass 1cm.

Keep us posted, I just saw your in aus. You'd be making some good money if you can get some fry to survive!
