Lee: would you say that the fish is an herbivore? Would you keep it with plants, or would it make short work of them?
Though I kept them previously, I never even bothered keeping them with plants.

Yes mate,still keeping some centrals.
I had group of lents off Andy Y. I'm keeping those with a group of otapa swordtails.

This is the only forum I really use now, most other forums I'm a member of are just too quiet.

What are you keeping in the big tank now Lee?
You keeping lentiginosus, nice, are they breeding yet?

The large tanks are mainly used for holding fish atm, nothing permanent is in there.

As they are closely related to Vieja I think it is likely they are herbivorous to a degree. They seem to enjoy eating leafy vegetable foods in my own aquarium. I've never kept plants with heterospila, but if they didn't eat them, I would think at the least they would dig them up. I have used some stem plants such as cabomba with V. melanura, but instead grown them floating and entangled them in between the branches. Perhaps you could try this?

Yes Lee, I've had 2 spawns from them so far but I've been to busy to pull and grow on any fry so far.
I would like to grow some on soon though.
Interesting cichlids to keep but I have found them painfully slow growers.
