very nice these lee! whot area are these from in the wild? and iv never saw these before or for sale in shops" are these a hard to come by cichlid"

Their natural range is in SE México, Guatemala in the Usumacinta/Grijalva and Candelaria river basins.

I have never seen them in the shops, not in any around the West Midlands, but you can generally see them on importers lists.

Hey Lee are heterospila and breidohri sympatric species? I believe they both hail from the Grijalva river system. If so, any other insight on creating a biotope environment for these two species?

No they are not syntopic species. You can find Vieja bifasciata and V. melanura var. (synspila) living sympatrically. Two good biotopes to create around O. heterospila is the Candelaria River or Noh Lagoon in Campeche. Both have a nice selection of cichlids to choose from.

Thanks for all the valuable info on these Lee. What temperature do you keep yours at and what would you say is a reasonable range for this species?

Salvinia Rio Candelaria with Oscura Heterospilus and Thorichthys would be an absolutely visually striking tank.

nutty nutty Does your magazine detail what all cichlids are from those rivers that you mentioned?
