Although you did a water change the parameters need to be tested and listed. What size aquarium are the GSP's?
How often do you do wc's?
Was the aquarium completely cycled prior adding the Puffers.

Only time I ever had floating fish is when my main pump had turned itself off for no reason.

Oxygenated the water until I could get it fixed, but had to do daily water changes to keep them going.

I thought that took my air stone off and put the whose in my power head to super oxygenate the water didn't help

Hello; Any chance the sump was turned off for a length of time? There have been reports of toxins building up in sumps during power outages and then those toxins get pumped into a tank later.

There is also the chance that someone caused the problem either by accident or otherwise. This sort of thing has happened. I have had tanks poisoned by students and know of such things in shops.

Is it possible the buckets or other tank equipment might have been used for some other purpose? I live alone so can keep track of which bucket is for mopping the floor and which are for tanks only.

Sometimes entire shipments of GSP's will arrive with pre existing issues from shipment/holding process and you could see a complete die off, the symptoms may take days to surface not saying thats what happened here but one possibility.

I dont think that would be the case no power outages and I check everything daily as for buckets I use a metal cooking pot that is used only too change water and any cleaners I use in my house are non toxic

Hello; Over the years I have avoided metal whenever possible for my tanks. Back a few decades ago stainless steel was common for some aquarium equipment. I think there are reasons I do no use metal pots even stainless if decent plastic buckets are available.
I seem to recall this is a brackish setup. If my memory is correct then the salts are a bit more likely to react with metal than fresh water.

Correct me if I am taking your comments wrong. Are you saying you use the same metal pots for the tanks and other things such as cooking and cleaning?

I have been careful about chemicals around my tanks. Not sure what such non-toxic cleaners you speak of but even with such things I have a set of buckets and tools such as sponges only used around my tanks. I have another set of buckets and tools used around the house and never around or for my tanks.

What about someone putting something in a tank?
