Any and all salt water gear is also applicable to fresh water tanks.
I use protein skimmers in fresh water tanks.
And depending on species of freshwater fish, you may not need all that much cleaning.
If you keep African rift lake fish, or Central Americans, a tertiary rinse is all that is needed.
If you want to keep Amazonian soft water species, then a more thorough desalting would be needed.

Depending on the height of the stand, you may not be able to fit the 75 underneath it and have room for plumbing. Alls you need for a freshwater sump is somewhere to hang the socks and a return pump. Media in a bag draped over the pump inlet and good to go.

Cleaning the sump will be much easier and quicker than making a new one with the 75.

What would you do with the spare sump if you built a new one with the 75? Seems the best option is to use the sump with the tank and sell or use the old 75 as a tank.
